Potential IDSA Organizational Change: Pick 2 system to be voted upon by the Board of Directors this year. If passed the system will allow members to select or join any combination of two Chapters, Sections, or one of each. Some Chapters and Sections will disappear due to no interest, activity, etc. IDSA Texas strongly recommends that if/when picking your combination of two to make sure acceptable deliverables are listed next to your selections. If no deliverables are listed, you are not guaranteed to receive anything. ...Our goal is to make sure you actually get something in return for your selections.

9th Annual BIG III Events Continue: Amazing - for 9 years running now the Texas Chapter has been holding a "main event" in each of the BIG III Sub-Chapters of Austin, Dallas and Houston. Events are typically BIG in scale and attract up to 150 attendees! Our goal with BIG III events is to foster learning and knowledge share across both core and related industries.

The Whole Enchilada [ a BIG III event ] Summary: This past January 28th the IDSA Texas Chapter South presented a one day event that focused on collaboration in product development and brought together local practitioners from design, intellectual property, ergonomics, technology and education to share experiences and wisdom regarding collaborative product development. Hosted this year by Hewlett-Packard the event attracted over 60 people who were also treated to lunch featuring, you guessed it, Tex-Mex cuisine compliments of Hewlett-Packard. Design students from the University of Louisiana and University of Houston were in abundance and enjoyed a portfolio review session compliments of the many design professionals in attendance including those from corporate, consulting, and design education. Two highlights from the podium, the first was a surprise visit and presentation by John Guenther from the Hewlett-Packard Global ID Group, headquartered in Palo Alto, who among other things emphasized the importance of communication in design collaboration. The second, was a surprisingly entertaining presentation by Hugh Kress, an intellectual patent attorney located in Houston who like Felix The Cat, pulled out of his bag of tricks numerous bits and pieces of products to illustrate the intricacies of IP issues relating to product design as well as demonstrating that the business of design can be fun! Other presenters included; George Daniels, David Quijano and Christy Harper from HP, Ken Buras of Point Innovation, Jeff Applegate of Blackwell Plastics, EunSook Kwon of the University of Houston, and Steven Umbach who organized the event and served as the MC.

IDSA @ SXSW [ a BIG III event ] Update: Summary: This year's event will focus on an organized, private tour of studios that will mix a little learning with a little business and of course a lot of fun! IDSA members will have access to studio leads, presentations by studio participants, and of course ample opportunity to network. When: March 11-14 Where: Austin Convention Center / Various - for more event details please visit: www.idsatexas.com For a detailed list of SXSWi panels/speakers visit: http://2006.sxsw.com/interactive/programming/panels/ To enter SXSW Interactive panels you will need to register seperately: http://2006.sxsw.com/register_to_attend/
